Botox / Dysport
These products contain a weakened form of botulinum toxin A, and are marketed under the brand names Botox or Dysport. When injected into muscles, they block local nerve endings from releasing neurotransmitters for 3 to 5 months.
The three main areas where these agents are used to treat “dynamic wrinkles” are: a) area between the eyebrows (glabella), b) forehead, and c) lateral eye area (crow’s feet). Less commonly, Botox and Dysport can be used to treat “bunny lines” (nasal bridge), a “gummy smile”, and the perioral area.
For individuals concerned with dynamic wrinkles, these neuromodulators should be a part of your overall skin care plan.
